Paul Dorn (geologist)

Paul Dorn (born January 15, 1901 in Hollfeld , † July 12, 1959 in Braunschweig ) was a German geologist .

Paul Dorn was born in Upper Franconia as the son of a veterinarian. From 1920 to 1924 he studied geology and mineralogy at the University of Erlangen , the University of Heidelberg and the University of Breslau . In 1929 he received his habilitation in Erlangen and from 1933 he was a lecturer in applied geology (and from 1936 associate professor) in Tübingen, succeeding Bruno von Freyberg . In 1939 he became a professor at the Mineralogical-Geological Institute of the TH Braunschweig . 1952 to 1956 he was rector of the TH Braunschweig. Since 1949 he was a member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society .

Dorn is known as the author of a standard work on the geology of Central Europe and dealt in particular with the geology of the Franconian Alb . A street in his hometown Hollfeld is named in his honor.
