Paul Eliasberg
Paul Eliasberg (born April 17, 1907 in Munich ; died October 1, 1983 in Hamburg ) was a German-French graphic artist .
Life
Paul Eliasberg was the son of the stateless author and translator Alexander Eliasberg and his wife Zina. The family was expelled from Bavaria in 1923 and moved to Berlin, where their father died shortly afterwards. He studied in Berlin from 1924 to 1925, continued his studies in Paris from 1926 and was a student of Roger Bissière at the Académie Ranson until 1928 . At the beginning of the Second World War he was drafted into the French army. From 1941 to 1944 he lived with his wife and daughter in the south-west of France in illegality and took part in actions of the Resistance .
In 1945 Eliasberg returned to Paris and worked part-time. In 1947 he took French citizenship. In 1949 he made a trip to Israel , which was followed by his first trip to Spain in 1956. In 1957 he went to Greece for the first time. Since 1958 he could devote himself exclusively to his artistic work.
From 1966 to 1970 he taught at the Städelschule in Frankfurt. His main subject was landscapes and architecture as abstract visions, which he expressed in delicate etchings .
