Paul Hermann Meixner

Paul Hermann Meixner (born June 4, 1891 in Vienna ; † June 8, 1950 there ) was an Austrian naval officer.

Life

Retired from the Naval Academy Fiume in 1910 as a midshipman , Meixner served in the Austrian Navy . During the First World War he distinguished himself as the second officer of a torpedo boat and (from August 29, 1915) of the submarine 16 several times. He was taken prisoner in Italy in 1916 when his submarine was rammed by an Italian Navy warship in the Strait of Otranto . After his release in February 1919, he was retired in 1920 as a distinguished lieutenant of the line (captain). As a civilian, he worked in Pressbaum from 1920 to 1939 as the commercial and technical director of the Rekawinkel sanatorium. At the same time he studied law at the University of Vienna . In 1927 he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD. Called up for the German Navy in 1940 , after brief service at various agencies, he was appointed head of the Tripoli sea transport office and head of the main sea transport offices in North Africa in 1941. At the same time he was a liaison officer to the German Africa Corps . In October 1942 he became Chief of the Naval Command North Africa and in February 1943 Chief of the Naval Command Tunisia . On May 11, 1943, he was taken prisoner by the Allies, from which he was released in February 1946.
