Paul Wilhelm Hermberg (born March 9, 1855 in Lübeck ; † August 19, 1915 there ) was a German businessman , factory owner and patron .

Life

Paul Hermberg was born in 1855 as the son of the lithographer Johann Carl Friedrich Hermberg († June 24, 1898). In 1882 he joined his father's company, the Hermbergsche Lithographische Anstalt und Steruckerei , based in An der Obertrave 13 , which was founded in 1859 . It flourished under his guidance . While his father lived in the factory building, Paul Hermberg lived in the house at An der Untertrave 105 and later moved into a suitable house at Friedrich-Wilhelm-Strasse 22 . around.

The rooms on the Obertrave soon became too small for the expanding business and a stately new office building was built in Johannisstrasse , the Hermberg'sche Haus . Meanwhile, the management was passed to Paul's son Herrmann Hermberg and the graphic products of the institute went to Germany and beyond its borders to the Scandinavian north.

Paul Hermberg was very active in public life . For the most part, he did this in the field of city administration , the fire insurance fund and animal welfare . On October 26, 1898, the Lübeck Senate elected the civil deputy to the board of the Lübeck insane asylum . In 1905 he resigned from the billing authority for the city of Lübeck, suburb of St. Jürgen . The following year, 1906, he was elected as a civil member of the senior replacement commission for the years 1906 to 1908. His mandate was extended from 1909 to 1911. On November 22, 1912, he was accepted as a member of the Geographical Society .

He was also, like most of the time, an avid soldier. As first lieutenant d. L. he was a member of the Comradeship Association of the 76ers and 162s in Lübeck and the Association of Inactive Officers and Medical Officers . On October 5, 1914, shortly after the outbreak of the World War , he volunteered - regardless of his advanced age - for the replacement battalion of the local Hanseatic Infantry Regiment .

Due to the overexertion, he fell seriously ill after a short time, but recovered. In August 1915 he died of a stroke .
