Paul Herrmann (born March 25, 1892 in Danzig , † April 23, 1974 in Goslar ) was a German major general in World War II .

Life

Herrmann joined the Pioneer Battalion "von Rauch" (1st Brandenburg) No. 3 of the Prussian Army on March 22, 1912 as a flag junior and advanced to lieutenant after attending the Potsdam War School in mid-November 1913 with a patent from November 19, 1911 . During the First World War he took part in the fighting on the Western Front with the 3rd Company and was seriously wounded at the end of February 1915. From the middle of May 1915 he acted as an adjutant of the battalion and from the end of January 1917 was active as leader of the 3rd company. In addition to both classes of the Iron Cross , Herrmann was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern with Swords on April 25, 1918 .

After the end of the war in the Reichswehr , Herrmann was a company commander in the 2nd (Prussian) Pioneer Battalion in Stettin and in the staff of the 3rd (Prussian) Pioneer Battalion in Küstrin . He rose to major on January 1, 1934 and was appointed commander of Pioneer Battalion 2 on October 15, 1935. In this position, Herrmann was on August 1, 1936 Lieutenant Colonel and on February 1, 1939 Colonel promoted.

At the beginning of the Second World War he led his battalion in the invasion of Poland . On October 1, 1939, he was appointed commander of the Pioneer Regiment 541. After serving as a senior engineer officer in the II Army Corps from the end of February to the end of October 1941 , Herrmann was briefly transferred to the leader reserve and on November 1, 1941 as an army engineer leader Appointed at Army High Command 12 . In this position, promoted to major general on October 1, 1942 , Herrmann was General of the Pioneers of Army Group E from mid-February 1943 as the war continued . From January 24, 1945, he was in command of Kolberg until he was relieved of illness at the beginning of March and reassigned to the Führerreserve. On May 6, 1945 he was taken prisoner of war, from which he was released on October 20, 1947.

After the war Paul Herrmann was chairman of the "Traditional Association of the Former Pomeranian Pioneer Battalion 2".
