Paul Herrmann (born December 14, 1859 in Halle (Saale) , † August 30, 1935 in Dresden ) was a German classical archaeologist .

In 1888 Paul Herrmann published The Grave Field of Marion on Cyprus, his first monograph, which became of great importance for research into Attic vase painting . From 1891 Hermann worked at the sculpture collection in the Albertinum in Dresden, initially as an assistant, from 1915 to 1925 he was director of the collection. His successor was Bruno Schröder . In 1909 Herrmann became honorary professor at the Technical University and the Dresden Art Academy . He also headed the Dresden Archaeological Society .

Herrmann's main works are the monuments of ancient painting , which have appeared since 1906 and which he published until his death. The first series alone has around 200 numbers. In addition to stylistic, color and formal analyzes, Herrmann also offers reports on what was found in the ancient murals. Reinhard Herbig continued the work in a second, but unfinished, series (1934 to 1950).

He had been a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute since 1899 and a member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences since 1924 .

Paul Herrmann died in Dresden in 1935 at the age of 75. He was buried in Cemetery IV of the Jerusalem and New Church on Bergmannstrasse in Berlin-Kreuzberg . The grave has not been preserved.
