Paul Kutscha , also Kutscha-Arend (born June 29, 1872 in Pruchna , then Austrian Silesia , today Strumień municipality , Poland; † 1935 in Munich ) was an Austrian nature and marine painter.
Life
Kutscha, the son of a civil engineer and building contractor, grew up in Vienna and, after attending the building trade school, studied from spring 1891 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in the nature class with Gabriel von Hackl and from January 1893 with Johann Caspar Herterich , although he was in this register book was later deleted with reference to the existing register entry 821. Even Alexander von Liezen-Mayer was one of his teachers. In 1894 he was represented with his painting Tiberinsel at the International Art Exhibition of the Munich Secession .
He completed his studies in Paris ; He then went on a world tour for four years, visiting all continents up to Australia , where he worked for a time in Sydney . In the course of the trip he mainly devoted himself to depictions of the navy and ports. Around 1900 he lived in Berlin , 1901 in Sankt Alban (Dießen am Ammersee) , later he also worked in Hamburg and Vienna from around 1905 to 1910 (1907). Back in Berlin in 1912 and in Dachau in 1913 . During this time he met the painter Clara Porges , who was a student of his for a while.
His paintings show nature, old town and marine motifs in a style between impressionism and naturalism . Ludwig Hevesi characterized him in 1907 on the occasion of an exhibition of his pictures in the Vienna Art Salon Hirschler :
"As a whole he is a moderate impressionist, without optical adventures."
Kutscha also worked as an illustrator or made his sketches available to illustrators.
The Städel had an Arab coffee house from him . The Ernst Rump Collection in Hamburg had 10 charcoal drawings and one gouache .
