Paul Leonard Schäffer

Paul Leonard Schäffer (born March 16, 1987 in Hanover ) is a German composer , conductor and pianist .

Life

Schäffer received his first piano lessons at the age of five and shortly afterwards became a member of the Hanover Boys Choir . At the age of 16 he received his first organ lessons from Torsten Meyer . He studied composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main with Gerhard Müller-Hornbach , church music with Martin Lücker (organ) and orchestral conducting with Wojciech Rajski at the same university. Further studies with Beat Furrer and Marc Andre , as well as song accompaniment and accompaniment lessons with Eugen Wangler and Helmut Deutsch supplemented his musical training.

He was a scholarship holder of the Aribert Reimann Foundation , the "Paul Hindemith and Heinrich Mann Scholarship" of the State Music Council of Hesse and has been supported by Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Frankfurt am Main e. V. funded. In 2014 he was a finalist in the orchestral composition competition of the Weimar Spring Festival for contemporary music .

His works have been performed by the International Ensemble Modern Academy , the Jena Philharmonic and the Ensemble l'Autre mOnde . Performances took place at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden , the Alte Oper Frankfurt and as part of the Rheingau Music Festival , the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists , the Kassel Music Days and the Karlsruhe Handel Festival .

In February 2012 he made his debut as musical director of the Threepenny Opera with the State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate at the Theater im Pfalzbau Ludwigshafen. The production was awarded the golden bird at the 3rd Papageno Award.

In January 2016 he took over the musical direction of the Figuralchor Frankfurt .
