Paul Märzheuser
Paul Emil Märzheuser (born August 31, 1924 in Duisburg ; † January 27, 2007 there ) was President of MSV Duisburg from 1970 to 1981 . His tenure included the club's greatest successes, participation in the DFB Cup final in 1975 and the two UEFA Cup appearances in 1975 and 1978. He also celebrated great successes in equestrian sports as an official.
Life
Career as a football official
Paul Märzheuser was a Duisburg lawyer and notary, in 2002 he stopped working as a notary. From 1970 to 1981 he was president of the football club MSV Duisburg , which, under his leadership, made it to the finals of the DFB Cup in 1975, but lost it 1-0 to Eintracht Frankfurt. In 1975 the MSV played in the UEFA Cup, but were eliminated in the second round. In 1979 the team was only stopped in the semi-finals by Borussia Mönchengladbach .
Career in horse racing
Märzheuser has been involved in horse racing since he bought a riding horse for the first time in 1972 and had it ridden by professional jockeys at horse races. For a long time there was no success until on June 29, 1995 his gallop All My Dreams won the 126th German Derby . The Cologne gallop agent Hans-Jörg Eisele found this horse for himself and his wife Monika, as well as his lawyer colleague Hans Ehrhorn (Rheinwiese stable) in Newmarket, England, for relatively little money. For only about 35,000 marks he bought the horse in England and from then on had it ridden by jockey Kevin Woodburn . It was first five times, including the derby victory. The financial balance sheet was remarkable: They earned 942,000 marks with All My Dreams . After the derby victory, the horse suffered tendon damage and had to end his career. On his eightieth birthday, his Mülheim horse racing club made him an honorary member.
Functions in the Church
Paul Märzheuser was an avowed Catholic. Since his studies in Bonn he was a member of the student association K.D.St.V. Ripuaria Bonn in the CV . In 1984 he set about re-establishing the KDSt.V. Elbmark (Tetschen-Liebwerd) to Duisburg earned in the CV.
In 1969 he was named Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Cardinal Tisserant and invested in Rome on January 29, 1969 by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . He was last Commander of the Order. He cared about the support of Christians in the Holy Land .
family
Märzheuser was married to the artist Monika Firley. The couple had two daughters, the lawyer Babette Märzheuser-Wood (* 1961) and the doctor Stefanie Märzheuser (* 1963). Paul Märzheuser was buried on February 2, 2007 in the family crypt at the Catholic cemetery in Meiderich .
