Paul Monette

Paul Monette (born October 16, 1945 in Lawrence , Massachusetts , † February 10, 1995 in West Hollywood , California ) was an American author , poet and LGBT activist.

Life

Monette studied at Phillips Academy until 1963 and then at Yale University , where he graduated in 1967. After graduation, he taught English at Milton Academy in Boston and then moved to West Hollywood, California. There he met his partner, the lawyer Roger Horwitz. Monette wrote several books and poems. From the end of the 1980s, he focused on the topic of AIDS in particular . His Borrowed Time: An AIDS Memoir won the Lambda Literary Award in 1989 (in the AIDS and Gay men's nonfiction categories ) and Becoming a Man in 1993 . The film Paul Monette: On the Brink of Summer's End by Monte Bramer and Lesli Klainberg was made about the life of Monette . Monette died on February 10, 1995 of complications from AIDS .
