Paul Neagu (bobsledder)

Paul Neagu (born June 6, 1954 in Constanța ) is a former Romanian bobsleigh driver , athlete and weightlifter and today's bobsleigh trainer.

Neagu started bobsleigh in 1974. In 1976 he took part in the Winter Olympics. With the four-man bobsleigh Romania I he reached eighth place in Innsbruck. In addition, he always played other sports, so he was the Romanian champion in 1978 and 1979 with the bobsleigh, shot put and weightlifting. At the 1979 Bobsleigh World Cup in Winterberg , Neagu decided to stay in Germany. The qualified sports teacher became a rail trainer in Winterberg.

After the Romanian Revolution in 1989 , Neagu started again for Romania. At the European Bobsleigh Championships in 1992 , he won the bronze medal with the four-man bobsleigh at Königssee, which qualified him for the Olympic Games in the same year. In Albertville he reached 20th place with the four-man bobsleigh Romania I and 22nd place with the two-man bobsleigh Romania II . In 1998, at the age of 43, Neagu took part in his third Olympic Games . In Nagano , he finished 25th in the Romania I two-man bobsleigh .

After his active career, Neagu stayed in bobsleigh as a coach. He looked after many Romanian bobsleigh athletes such as Maria Spirescu , Viorica Țigău , Oana Ungureanu , Andreea Grecu and Maria Adela Constantin . In 2008 he built the Belgian women's team.

Paul Neagu is married to Katalin Neagu . She was a pusher at the first women's bobsleigh world championship in Winterberg in 2000 . His son Andreas Neagu took part in the 2014 Olympic Games in the Romanian four-man bobsleigh .
