Paul Pradier-Fodéré

Paul Louis Ernest Pradier-Fodéré (born  July 11, 1827 in Strasbourg , †  June 28, 1904 in Saint-Étienne ) was a French lawyer and publicist . He taught at the École des Sciences Politiques in Paris and from 1874 to 1882 as a professor of political science at the University of Lima . His publications, the most famous of which appeared from 1885 to 1906 eight-volume treatise "Traité de droit international public européen et américain" is comprised mainly works for administration , heads of state and international law .

Life

Paul Pradier-Fodéré was born in Strasbourg in 1827 and studied law at the university in his hometown . He then settled in Paris as a lawyer . In 1857 he was appointed professor of public law at the Collegio Armeno Moorat , later he moved to the École des Sciences Politiques in Paris. In 1874 he went to Peru , where he took a chair in political science at the University of Lima .

Six years later he returned to France and became a judge at the Court of Appeal in Lyon . Paul Pradier-Fodere belonged from 1879 to the Institut de Droit International and shaped the law in the course of his work, in particular as an author of books in the area of administration , heads of state and international law . He died in Saint-Étienne in 1904 .

Act

Paul Pradier-Fodéré's main work is an encyclopaedic treatise on international law entitled “Traité de droit international public européen et américain”, which he worked on for around 20 years beginning in the 1880s. The work, which according to its original plans was to comprise four volumes, developed over the course of its publication history into a comprehensive compendium of the theory and practice of international law at the time.

At the time of Paul Pradier-Fodéré's death, it was over 8,700 pages in eight volumes. The unfinished eighth volume, which appeared posthumously , was not completed by another author at the request of his son, and therefore did not contain, for example, complete explanations on the neutrality of states and the effects of the Russo-Japanese War of 1904/1905.
