Paul von Baranoff
Paul Trofimowitsch Graf von Baranoff ( Russian : Па́вел Трофи́мович Бара́нов; * December 30, 1814 in Saint Petersburg ; † April 15, 1864 in Saint Petersburg) was a Russian count , major general in the Imperial Russian Army , war governor of the city of Tver and governor of the Tver Governorates .
Life
Paul's military career began in the Imperial Russian Page Corps . As a midshipman , he served from 1833 Izmajlovschen Guard - Regiment , which the Russian Old Guard counted. From 1844 he was employed for a long time as an adjutant to the Minister of War Alexander Ivanovich Tschernyschow . In 1846 he and his brothers were raised to the status of Russian count . In 1849 he was promoted to colonel and from 1853 took over the position of Vice Director of the Provisions Department in the War Ministry . In 1855 he became the adjutant of Tsar Alexander II. Appointed (1818-1881) and the 1856 Major General à la suite appointed. From 1857 to 1862 he was war governor of the city of Tver and governor of the Tver governorate. During his time as governor, he made a name for himself by expanding the city, for example promoting a public library , promoting the construction of the grammar school and opening some educational institutions for girls. On October 14, 1862, he retired from military service and died after a brief illness on April 15, 1864 in Saint Petersburg.

Origin and family
Paul came from the Baltic-Russian noble family von Baranoff , who had lived in Estonia and Livonia since the middle of the 16th century and descended from an ancient Russian nobility . His father was the Imperial Russian Chamberlain and Real Councilor of State Trofim Johann Ludwig von Baranoff, who was married to the Chamberlain Julie von Adlerberg. His brothers were the Russian infantry generals Nikolai Graf von Baranoff (1808-1883) and Johann Graf von Baranoff (1811-1884). Paul married the lady-in-waiting Anna Aleksejewna Wassilchikowa in 1845, her descendants were:
