Paul Wilhelm Jakob Schnitzler , von Schnitzler since 1913 (born July 15, 1856 in Cologne , † February 19, 1932 there ) was a German lawyer , landowner and industrialist .

Life

Paul Schnitzler was born the son of the Cologne merchant and banker Eduard Schnitzler and his wife Maria vom Rath (1831–91). After attending high school in Cologne, he studied law at the universities of Bonn and Berlin. In Bonn he became a member of the Corps Palatia in 1877 . After completing his legal training, he embarked on a career as a judge , where he became a district judge at the Cologne district court. From 1902 Schnitzler was the owner of the Giersberg estate near Bad Münstereifel . He was the mining director of the Diergardt - Mevissen mining company and, like his brother Richard, a member of the supervisory board of IG Farben-Industrie AG .

In September 1913 he and his brothers Julius Eduard and Richard were raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility.

As an art collector, Paul von Schnitzler u. a. Statues by the Rococo sculptor Adam Ferdinand Dietz , which were set up in the park of Gut Giersberg. In 2008, at the instigation of Cologne music professor Vera von Schnitzler, they came to the more protected monastery garden of the Bad Münstereifel pharmacy museum .

Paul Schnitzler married Fanny Emilie Joest (1861–1941) in 1883. One son was Georg von Schnitzler , who in the course of the merger moved from the board of directors of Hoechst AG to the board of IG Farben as commercial director in 1925 . One daughter was Ada Schnitzler (1886–1975), who had married Carl Theodor Deichmann (1866–1933) in 1905. The siblings Freya von Moltke and Hans Deichmann come from this marriage .
