Baron Paul von Tiesenhausen (born January 10, 1836 or 1837 in Itfer , Estonia , † November 24, 1876 in Munich ) was a Baltic German marine and landscape painter .

Life

Paul von Tiesenhausen came from the Baltic German noble family Tiesenhausen . He attended the cathedral school in Reval .

At the beginning of the Crimean War in 1853, he volunteered in the Russian army at the age of 16 . In the campaign he made it up to the rank of prime lieutenant .

In 1861 he quit army service and moved to Munich. Since April 20, 1864 he studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Karl Millner and became a master student of Adolf Heinrich Lier .

After completing his studies, he remained active in Munich, mainly creating sea, beach and harbor paintings. He visited Normandy and the Italian coast.

On November 26, 1870, he married Nina von Schulmann in St. Petersburg's Michaeliskirche . He died of tuberculosis at the age of 39 .
