Paula Monjé

Paula Monjé (* 1849 in Düsseldorf ; † May 4, 1919 there ) was a German painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Paula Monjé, daughter of the division preacher at the Düsseldorf garrison church Hermann Monjé († 1849 in Wesel) and Maria, a née Bölling from Düsseldorf, did not receive her training at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , but privately from Eduard Gebhardt and Wilhelm Sohn . Her fellow students were Julia Schily-Koppers , Sophie Meyer (1847–1921), Margaret Harte and Margarete Loewe (1859–1932). In Paris , Monjé studied in Courtois' studio. Study trips took her to the Netherlands and Italy. Monjé painted mainly portraits and genre pictures . Paula Monjé was a member of the Allgemeine Deutsche Kunstgenossenschaft , as well as in the Association of Düsseldorf Artists and the Association of Düsseldorf Artists for Mutual Support and Help and took part in numerous exhibitions, including the Berlin Academy exhibitions in the art barracks from 1878 to 1884 and in 1894 the international art exhibition in the Glaspalast in Munich and has been regularly represented at exhibitions by the Düsseldorf gallery owners Eduard Schulte and Bismeyer & Kraus since the late 1870s . In 1891 she was awarded the Prize of the Association of Berlin Women Artists . As a member of the Malkasten Artists' Association , she contributed to the anniversary exhibition in the Kunsthalle with the portrait of Edmund Henoumont . Her studio was in the Eiskellerberg between 1895 and 1901, at the same time as the painters Carl Becker Wilhelm Döringer , Heinrich Otto , Rudolf Zahner (1825–1903) and Hugo Zieger . After that, until her death, she retired to her private address in Rochustraße, where she shared an apartment with her older sister Eugenie (* 1845).
