The Pays-d'Enhaut is the section of the Saan Valley in the canton of Vaud between the headwaters in the Bernese Saanenland and the pre-Alpine area of the Freiburg Gruyère region . The villages of Rougemont and Rossinière are predominantly characterized by the chalet buildings typical of the Bernese Oberland , while the main town of Château-d'Œx also has a large number of stone buildings.

In the Middle Ages the valley belonged to the county of Gruyères . In 1555 it became part of the administrative area of Bern , namely the Landvogtei Saanen. tourism

The valley is one of the most popular holiday regions in the canton of Vaud. The mountain railways on La Videmanette and La Braye as well as the proximity to the skiing and hiking areas of Gstaad , Les Mosses and Les Diablerets ' contribute to this. In addition, the valley is famous for the intensely cultivated carving craft and a large number of antique shops. The annual International Hot Air Balloon Week in Château-d'Œx is also well known.
