history

The name of Ransonery dates back to 780, which later became Rossinière . The municipality was first part of the county of Gruyères , came with this to the city-state of Bern and in 1803 came to the canton of Vaud. Despite many natural disasters and fires, some old buildings have been preserved. The church is a building from the 17th century. There is also the clock tower ( Tour de l'Horloge ) and the parish hall ( l'Hôtel de Ville ). The Frasse district still has typical house shapes today, including the Chalet de La Place , built in 1664, a listed building that bears testimony to the taste of the gentlemen of its time. The Grand Chalet is one of the largest historic wooden houses in Switzerland and Europe. It has an ornate facade and 113 windows; The interior is also worth seeing. The Grand Chalet was built in 1754 by master carpenter Joseph Geneyne for Jean-David Henchoz. It later became a hotel, where Victor Hugo, among others, stayed. The hotelier family Devenish knew how to attract tourists from all over the world, but especially from England. In 1976 it was bought by the painter Balthasar Klossowski von Rola (called Balthus ), who lived there with his wife Countess Setsuko until his death in February 2001.

Since 2012, the community has been part of the Parc naturel régional Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut .

economy

Agriculture and forestry have been the mainstays of the municipality's economy since ancient times, while industry is completely absent. At the beginning of the 20th century, forestry was still the municipality's primary source of income. It generated so much that the citizens of Rossinière did not have to pay taxes. Towards the end of the 20th century, market developments changed everything; the low timber prices force the owners to keep them to a minimum. 14 farms are left.

Movie and TV

In 1983 the Japanese anime series Die Kinder vom Berghof , which takes place in Rossinière, was released. The children's book "Traces in the Snow" by the author Patricia St. John served as a template for the anime series . The series comprises a total of 48 episodes. In 1980, Mike Pritchard's English film Treasures of the Snow , in which the children of Rossinière starred and based on the book of the same name, was released.
