Peace Queen Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Peace Queen Cup is a football competition for women's national teams. It was introduced in 2006 by the initiators of the Peace Cup , the edition of this competition for men, after it was successfully received by the public. In contrast to women, men do not have national teams, but club teams. The competition serves for international understanding. The excess income will benefit starving children from Asia and Africa . The first edition of the Peace Queen Cup took place in South Korea from October 28th to November 4th .

Originally eight nations from five continents were supposed to take part in the first tournament. North Korea, South Korea, Denmark, Italy, Brazil, Australia, Nigeria and the USA were expected to participate, but on October 11, 2006, less than a month before the start of the tournament, North Korea withdrew its approval due to the hostile attitude of some of the other nations back to their own nuclear program. Nigeria did not compete either, so North Korea was replaced by the Netherlands and Nigeria by Canada.

Game mode

The game mode is the same as the men's version of the tournament. The game is played in two groups of four teams each. The teams each play once against their group opponents. The two group winners play the tournament winner among themselves in a single final game.

Win bonus

In contrast to those of the men, the victory bonuses are relatively low. This is due to the smaller media interest. For the winning national team there is US $ 200,000 and at least US $ 50,000 for the defeated finalist.
