The Istria Cup ( English : Istria Women's Cup ) is a less recognized international football tournament for women's football teams. The tournament was held from 2013 - initially as the Slavic Cup 2013 - to 2017 in spring parallel to the more important Algarve Cup and the Cyprus Cup , in which mostly stronger teams take part, in Croatian Istria .
The tournament is an invitation-only tournament and is organized by the Croatian association Hrvatski nogometni savez .
So far, no team has won the tournament more than once. Poland and Slovakia were the first teams to finish in the top four twice. In 2017, Slovakia won the tournament for the first time after three second places and is now leading the ranking. Besides host Croatia, Slovakia is also the only team that has participated in all previous events.
Venues
Up to now, the venues have been Buje / Novigrad (City Stadium Buje), Poreč (Veli Jože), Rovinj (Valbruna), Rovinj (Field Rovinjsko Selo) and Umag (City stadium Umag (Stella Maris complex)), in Istria on the Adriatic Sea .

In the first two editions in 2013 and 2014, six teams played in two groups of three, in 2015, as in the two parallel tournaments, there were twelve teams and in 2016 there were only eight. First, the teams in their group play each against each other for the placement. First the best score, then the direct comparison and only then the goal difference is decisive for the placement. Placement games then took place in 2013 and 2015. If there is a tie after the regular playing time of the placement games, a penalty shoot-out follows . Since the matches are considered by FIFA as friendly matches and are taken into account as such when calculating the FIFA world rankings , up to six players may be substituted.
First participations
There have been a total of 20 participants in the four tournaments so far, with Poland and Hungary competing with the senior national team as well as the U-19 and B-team. France only participated with the B team and the USA with the U23 team. The matches against these teams are not counted as A internationals by FIFA and therefore do not appear in their statistics. The following overview shows which country participated in which event for the first time (number of participations in brackets, as of 2016):
