Peathill is a hamlet in the Scottish council area of Aberdeenshire . It is about 1.5 kilometers south of Rosehearty and six kilometers west of Fraserburgh near the south bank of the Moray Firth .
history
A short distance from Peathill, a cairn and a standing stone , believed to date from the Stone or Bronze Age , testify to the early settlement of the area.
To the north of Peathill are the ruins of Pitsligo Castle . The castle, begun in the 15th century, was gradually expanded in the following centuries. The lands to the east had belonged to the Fraser clan since the 14th century . They built Pittulie Castle there in the 16th to 17th centuries, which is now in ruins .
On the northern edge of Peathill are the ruins of the Old Pitsligo Church, built around 1630 . With the construction of the adjacent Hill Church of Rosehearty in 1890, it became obsolete and abandoned.
traffic
Peathill is connected by a secondary road. The A98 runs south (Fraserburgh– Fochabers ). In Fraserburgh, the A90 coming from Edinburgh and the A981 leading to New Deer are also within a short distance.
