Pedro Reginaldo Lira (born September 7, 1915 in Salta , Salta Province , Argentina , † December 11, 2012 ibid) was an Argentine Roman Catholic bishop .

Life

Pedro Reginaldo Lira studied theology and philosophy at the seminaries in Salta, Catamarca and Buenos Aires. On September 21, 1938, he was ordained a priest by the Archbishop of Salta , Roberto José Tavella SDB . He worked in various positions in pastoral care, in 1948 Vicar General in Salta and head of religious education in the Archdiocese of Salta.

On July 16, 1958, Pope Pius XII appointed him . as titular bishop of Tenedus and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Salta. The episcopal ordination received his Archbishop Roberto José Tavella on September 7, 1958; Co- consecrators were Emilio Antonio di Pasquo , Bishop of San Luis , and Manuel Menéndez , Auxiliary Bishop in Buenos Aires .

On June 12, 1961, the appointment as the first Bishop of San Francisco by Pope John XXIII. The inauguration took place on October 27 of the same year. He was a participant in the first two sessions of the Second Vatican Council .

He resigned from office on June 22, 1965 for health reasons and was replaced by Pope Paul VI. appointed titular bishop of Castellum in Mauretania ; In 1967 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Salta. Pope Paul VI gave his resignation. on May 15, 1978.

Pedro Reginaldo Lira was a professor of philosophy and theology for many years and taught at the seminary in Salta, at the Franciscan Theological Seminary and at various institutes. He was the rector of the Catholic University of Salta . In 1995 he retired. He spent his twilight years on the Orco Huasi estate in La Calderilla, a settlement north of Salta. He was buried in the chapel there.

Honors

Pedro Reginaldo Lira was honored with the Olimpia de Salta in 1999 and appointed Honorary President for life by the Instituto Sanmartiniano de Salta . In 2004 he was honored with the honorary citizenship of the state government and the city of Salta.
