Peek & Cloppenburg is a clothing store chain based in Hamburg .

history

On March 12, 1912, the first Peek & Cloppenburg store was opened by Anton Cloppenburg and Paul Schröder in the Alsenhof office and commercial building on Graskeller in Hamburg. Anton Cloppenburg (1886–1967) was the son of Heinrich Cloppenburg, one of the two founders of Peek & Cloppenburg (Düsseldorf) , which his brother James was already running at the time, and at the same time the son-in-law of the other company founder, Johann Theodor Peek . The ascent of the young Hamburg company began immediately, for which industrial production and the introduction of uniform clothing sizes were decisive drivers. In 1937, the departments for women's and girls' clothing were created in addition to the men's range. In 1939 the company was converted into a limited partnership. At the same time, Fritz Cloppenburg (1914–2003, son of Anton Cloppenburg) took over the management as a personally liable partner. In 1946 Alfred Schröder followed as an equal and personally liable partner. After the Alsenhof was destroyed in 1943, new business premises in the Südseehaus were rented and moved into in 1949 . In 1958 this house was thoroughly modernized, and the company headquarters are still located there.

Another branch was opened in Bremen in 1958. From the 1970s to the end of the 20th century, branches followed in Braunschweig, Hanover, Kiel, Hildesheim, Bielefeld, Chemnitz, Flensburg, Osnabrück, Paderborn, Dresden, Stralsund, Rostock, Lüneburg, Norderstedt, Münster and Kassel. The second generation change took place at the end of the 1970s, when Dirk Schröder and James Cloppenburg (son of Fritz Cloppenburg) joined the company as personally liable partners. In 1992, the receiving department and modification studios moved into a new building in Hamburg-Allermöhe .
