The Beijing West Railway Station ( Chinese  北京 西 站 , Pinyin Běijīng Xīzhàn ), short: Beijing West ( 北京 西 , Běijīngxī ) is located in the western Beijing district of Fengtai .

history

The Beijing West Railway Station was opened in 1996 after three years of construction. The construction cost was the equivalent of $ 750 million. Since then, the long-distance routes to the west and south of China have started from here, while the routes to the north and east continue to start at the central station . The high-speed trains to Tianjin and Shanghai start at the South Station .

The station was expanded in 2000 and covers an area of over 510,000 square meters, making it the largest station in Asia in terms of area. On an average day 150,000 to 180,000 passengers are carried, at peak times even up to 400,000 per day.

The station has been connected to local public transport since December 28, 2014 with Line 7 and Line 9 of the Beijing subway .
