Pelican Rapids is a city in Otter Tail County in Minnesota , United States . In 2000 the place had 2374 inhabitants.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has an area of 6.9 km² , of which 6.8 km² is land and 0.1 km² (= 1.87%) is water. The Pelican River flows through Pelican Rapids.
US Highway 59 and Minnesota State Route 108 run through Pelican Rapids. The local airport is Pelican Rapids Municipal Airport .
Demographics
At the time of the United States Census 2000, the city was inhabited by 2,374 people. The population density was 348.8 people per km ². There were 962 housing units at an average of 141.8 per km ². The Pelican Rapids population was 60.43% White , 0.72% Black or African American , 1.93% Native American , 1.58% Asian , 1.04% Pacific Islander , 6.76% said belonging to other races and 4.54% named two or more races. 23.59% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
The residents of the city were distributed to 884 households out of which 33.1% had children under 18 years of age. 50.3% of households were married, 7.7% had a female head of household without a husband, and 36.8% were not families. 33.5% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 19.2% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.31 people.
