Train to Busan

Peninsula (original title: Bando ) is a zombie film by the South Korean director Yeon Sang-ho from 2020. The cinema release in South Korea was on July 15, 2020. It is the successor to Train to Busan (2016). Gang Dong-won and Lee Jung-hyun can be seen in the leading roles . The film is part of the Official Selection of the Cannes International Film Festival 2020 .

The German theatrical release was announced on October 8, 2020.

The film takes place four years after the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, told in Train to Busan . Jeong-seok tries to leave the Korean Peninsula to escape the zombies. He meets the survivor Min-jeong. Together they fight the ruthless military and zombies.

Peninsula was produced by RedPeter Films and distributed by Next Entertainment World (NEW). The NEW Contents Panda division took over international sales. The shooting took place from June to October 2019.

Box office success

Peninsula opened in South Korean cinemas on July 15, 2020 and reached over 350,000 admissions on the opening day. The film replaced the zombie film #Alive from the top of the South Korean box office and is the third major film release after the situation normalized somewhat during the COVID-19 pandemic . In Singapore , Peninsula set a new record for a South Korean film. The film achieved the highest grossing on the day of its release. Peninsula is considered the first global blockbuster during the Corona crisis. The film reached number one in the global box office on the opening weekend and achieved its greatest successes since March of that year. This puts it in 13th place (as of August 8, 2020) among the financially most successful films of 2020 .
