Pepel in Kri ( Slovenian for ashes and blood ) is a Slovenian, formerly Yugoslavian, vocal and instrumental group.

Band history

It was founded in autumn 1974 and consisted of around 14 members, of which Tadej Hrušovar (* 1947) and Ditka Haberl (* 1947) had already belonged to the Bele Vrane group. In 1975 she represented Yugoslavia at the Eurovision Song Contest 1975 with the song Dan ljubezni (Day of Love). In the dress rehearsal she sang the English version of Day of Love , the group had also been announced as Ashes and Blood by the German television commentator, but in fact she sang the Slovene version. According to the rules of the time, only six of its members performed, with Ditka Haberl taking over the solo parts and Tadej Hrušovar, Oto Pestner (* 1956), Ivo Mojzer, Nada Žgur and Palmira Klobos singing along with the chorus. Tadej Hrušovar was the composer, Dušan Velkaverh (* 1943) the lyricist of the song. The song reached number 13. You were the last Yugoslav representatives from Slovenia at the ESC before the country announced its independence in 1991 and has been participating as an independent country since 1993. In 1990 five members of the band returned to the Eurovision Song Contest as backing singers for the eventual winner of the competition, Toto Cutugno from Italy.

In the course of the 1970s and early 1980s, numerous record releases followed, including a cover version of Mississippi (original version of Pussycat , composed by Werner Theunissen ), otherwise songs mostly written by Hrušovar and Velkaverh. Pepel in Kri appeared mainly at festivals in all parts of Yugoslavia.

Today Pepel in Kri still consists of five people: Vojko Sfiligoj, Tadej Hrušovar, Zvezdana Sterle, Meta Močnik-Gruden and Oliver Antauer. Ditka Haberl made a solo career as a singer, Oto Pestner is active as a singer and composer in both swing and folk music.
