Korni grupa ( Serbian - Cyrillic Корни група ) was a rock band from the former Yugoslavia .

history

Korni grupa was founded in September 1968 in Belgrade by the former Indexi keyboardist Kornelije Kovač . The first members were Borko Kacl , a former guitarist of the band Zlatni Dečaci , bass guitarist Bojan Hreljac von Elipse , drummer Vladimir "Furda" Furduj (* 1945 - June 1, 2015) and singer Miroslava "Seka" Kojadinović . The band had their first appearance in Belgrade's "Dom sindikata" at the event for the athlete of the year. Soon after, the band was invited by Radio Belgrade to take part in the program “Studio VI vam pruža šansu”. However, Miroslava Kojadinović did not like to sing the desired song, so Kovač appeared as a singer. After this scandal, Miroslava Kojadinović was expelled from the band. The new singer was Dušan "Prele" Prelević .

In 1968 the group took part in the Jugovizija Festival in Zagreb . Prelević the singer came on stage drunk and was kicked out of the group shortly afterwards. Dalibor Brun from the band Rijeka became the new singer . The group's first hits were Magična ruka , Sonata and Dzum-ram . At the European Festival in the Netherlands they won the award for the most original band. Her first concert in Belgrade was on November 6, 1969 in Dom omladine . The concert was titled Uz malu pomoć naših frendova (With a little help from our friends). Then Dalibor Brun left the band and was succeeded by Dado Topić from the group Dinamiti . This also brought the guitarist Josip Boček to the band. The guitarist Kacl left the band shortly afterwards.

In 1971 Topić left the group and formed the band Time . The new singer was Zdravko Čolić from the group Ambasadori , who only spent six months with the band and then began a very successful solo career. Zlatko Pejaković from the band Zlatni Akordi became the new singer. With this, the group's first album entitled Korni grupa was released. In 1972 they performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival .

In 1974 they represented Yugoslavia at the Eurovision Song Contest with the title Moja generacija . In the same year the group was named Yugoslav Band of the Year by the British magazine Music Week . Disappointed by the poor performance at the Song Contest and declining popularity, Kovač decided to dissolve the Korni Grupa. They gave two farewell concerts in Studio M in Novi Sad . One number of the group, published in 1974, was called Divlje jagode (German wild strawberries ). In 1979 the solo guitarist Sead Lipovača founded his rock and heavy metal band called Divlje jagode .

In 1987 the band got together again to take part next to Indexi , Time , YU grupa , Drago Mlinarec and RM Točak Band at the concert Legende YU Rocka (Legends of YU Rock) in Zagreb . Her song Jedna žena appeared on the live album Legend YU Rocka . The same groups performed in Belgrade's Sava Centar that same year .
