Board 4M
Kvartet 4M (also 4 M , 4M or Vokalni kvartet 4M - 'Kvartet' is the Serbo-Croatian spelling of the word quartet , 'Vokalni' means "vocal" or "vocal") was a four-member vocal group from Zagreb , Yugoslavia , which was from Existed from 1956 to 1974.
Band history
The name stands for the four members of the group, of which Miro Ungar (* 1937) begins with the letter M, while the other three had nicknames that begin with M: Ivica Krajač (* 1938) "Mali" (the little one), Branko Marušić (* 1937 in Zagreb ; † November 14, 2012) "Medo" and Željko Ružić (* 1938) "Muki". Miro Ungar, who left the group in the 1960s, was replaced by Saša Sablić (* 1944) "Medicus".
4M has been recording singles on a regular basis since the early 1960s. Ivica Krajač contributed many of the compositions and texts (including Platno, boje, kist i twist, the first Yugoslav twist title); also Nikica Kalogjera wrote for 4M. Some cover versions were also recorded, e.g. B. Zelena trava mog doma ( Green Green Grass of Home by Curly Putman ), Charlie Brown (by Leiber / Stoller ) and Reci zašto - Bossa Nova (German original version Baby-Babbel-Bossa-Nova, composed by Werner Twardy and sung by Will Brandes ), and several titles by Paul Anka . In 1972 4M released a long-playing record . In 1964, together with Bijele Strijele, they recorded cover versions of the Beatles' titles It Won't Be Long (Dolazi dan) and She Loves You (Ja ljubim… je, je…!) , Whose Serbo-Croatian lyrics Ivica Krajač wrote (on Jugoton EPY 3365 ).
4M participated as Yugoslav participants at the Euro Vision Song Contest 1969 in part. According to the rules of the time, which only allowed individual performers and duos as well as up to three background singers, Ivica Krajač was declared a single performer who (with the others as a choir) took up the role of Ivan & M’s . Her song Pozdrav svijetu (Greetings to the World) reached number 13, tied with the Italian contribution. The record was released in Yugoslavia under the real name of the band, a Spanish-language version (Saludos al mundo) was released under the name Ivan & M’s . The text of the song contains the equivalent of “Guten Tag” in the languages of many of the countries participating in the Eurovision Song Contest (“Dobar dan, buenos días, Gute Tag, bonjour, good morning, goededag, bon giorno, hyvä päivä”).
After 4M was dissolved, Ivica Krajač continued to work as a composer and lyricist, later also as an opera and musical director. Miro Ungar made a solo career as a singer and also recorded German-language songs in the GDR. The three remaining members turned their backs on music. In 2006, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding, a revival concert took place in Zagreb, in which all members except Marušić took part.
