Bebi Dol

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bebi Dol , also Baby Doll , actually Dragana Šarić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Драгана Шарић ; born October 2, 1964 in Belgrade , Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian singer. Her trademark is her eccentric appearance and behavior. Her music videos also stand out because of their deliberately shrill and exaggerated nature. She gained international fame through her participation for Yugoslavia in the Eurovision Song Contest 1991 in Rome . As the first starting number, she presented her title Brazil with a choreography that was daring at the time and in flashy clothing and finally took second to last place. Even today, their appearance often appears across Europe as a curiosity in TV reviews and anniversary programs for the Eurovision Song Contest .

Life

Dragana Šarić grew up in a musical family, her father Milenko was a jazz musician and so she traveled all over Europe at a young age . Dragana made his first steps in the music business as a member of the bands Tarkus and Annoda Rouge in the 1970s and early 1980s. In 1980 she produced her first single entitled Mustafa , which also received an award as Single of the Year in Yugoslavia .

Since then she has taken part in the Yugoslav preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest several times: in 1983 she took 6th place with the title Rudi , in 1987 she took 4th place with Zrno nežnosti ("grain of tenderness"), and in 1988 with Zatvori, mama, prozore ( "Close, mom, the windows") 3rd place.

Over the years she has also participated in many other festivals. Among other things, she was able to win at the MESAM Festival, with the title Inšalah.

1984–1986 she worked as a singer in Egypt for three years .

In 1991 she won the Yugoslav preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest. Her winning title Brazil only finished 21st in the international final. There is an English version of the song called Control . Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest was shaped by the tense political situation in what was then Yugoslavia. In addition, the Belgrade television, which was responsible for the song contest that year, failed to organize a half playback for the song. So the entire instrumental had to be played live.

Out of disappointment about the bad placement at the Eurovision Song Contest, the record company PGP-RTS (then PGP-RTB) refused to produce the single "Brazil" and canceled the contract with Bebi Dol. Brazil was only produced as a promo single for Europe.

Bebi Dol then took part in the children's project “S one strane duge” (“From the other side of the rainbow”). She interpreted the classic Over the Rainbow by Judy Garland in the Serbian language ("Iznad duge").

In 2003 she took part in the Serbian Beovizija festival with the title Tvrdoglava ("Dickkopf") , which was originally intended as the preliminary decision of Serbia-Montenegro for the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest . However, the country only took part in the Eurovision Song Contest again a year later. Bebi Dol took sixth place. At the Beovizija 2007 she was part of the expert jury.

For a while, Baby Doll also hosted her own talk show "Bla bla bla uz Bebi Dol" on ART TV .

In 2008, Bebi Dol took part in the casting show Evropsko lice (The European Face), in which the moderators for the Beovizija 2008, who should also be co-moderators of the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 , were sought. She was the only celebrity to make it to the semi-finals. In order to give way to her previously unknown competitor Nina Radulović, she left voluntarily. The monologue in which she justified why she made this decision and then said goodbye to the audience was cut by the organizing broadcaster RTS , while editing in the studio, before it was broadcast on television. Instead, a manipulated TED was shown, in which Nina Radulović had supposedly won. Numerous daily newspapers subsequently reported on this incident.

As one of the few celebrities she publicly supported the Belgrade Povorka Ponosa ( Gay Pride , literally “procession of pride”) in a promotional campaign . Under the motto “Vreme je za ravnopravnost” (It is time for equality), she called on the population in a television commercial for tolerance, understanding and solidarity.

Bebi Dol attracted attention once again when she took part in the reality show Farma (The Farm) in the winter of 2009 and caught the attention of some of the other participants with her caustic comments.
