Pequod is a death metal / thrash metal band from Munich .

history

The band Pequod was founded in Munich in 1998 and was named after the ship of the tragic hero Captain Ahab from Herman Melville's 1851 novel Moby-Dick .

The two demos Star (t) (2001) and Epilepticat (2002), largely produced by the band itself , were followed by the EP PequoD in 2004 , which was recorded at Dreamsound Studios in Munich under the direction of Jan Vacik . In 2010, the debut album Forgotten was also produced in the Dreamsound Studios by Jan Vacik, which was released in early 2011 through Thunderblast Records / Twilight Distribution Europe. Well-known guest musicians such as Steffen Kummerer ( Obscura ) and Daniel Droste ( Ahab and Ex- Midnattsol ) could be won over for the recordings . The album Forgotten received positive reviews in renowned music magazines such as Metal Hammer # 6/2011, Rock Hard # 290/2011 and Legacy # 73/2011 as well as in various online magazines.

Of the musicians who recorded the Forgotten album , drummer Stephan Hieber left the band in 2012 and was replaced by Maurizio Guolo ( Haggard ). At the end of 2013 bassist Kris Samodol also left the band after seven years to concentrate on his other band Smoke the Sky and was replaced by Florian Schwarzfischer (Hope Dies First).

In August 2014, an official video clip for the song Hell Within was recorded in collaboration with Saloon Studios , directed by Randy M. Salo. The title Hell Within was published in advance on a sampler by Munich underground bands via Chaos Blast Records and on the Internet.

In the summer of 2016 the four track ep "False Divinity" was released. Guitarist Daniel Kirstein was responsible for the production. The mix was done by Fredrik Folkare ( Unleashed ), ( Firespawn ), ex ( Necrophobic ), the mastering by Peter In de Betou ( Meshuggah ), ( Opeth ), ( Amon Amarth ), ( Dismember ), ( Nasum ), ( Katatonia ) and many more Tailor Maid Studios in Sweden.

style

Due to the different musical backgrounds of the band members (including former members of the band Darkseed ), Pequod combine different styles of metal in their sound. After a few line-up changes, the band's sound developed increasingly towards rhythm-oriented Death-Thrash-Metal with melodic guitar runs. In addition, the progressive drumming and the vocals, which range from deep death metal growling to aggressive shouting , make the band recognizable. The musical "Vortic-Death-Thrash" style of the formation can be described as a mixture of Bay Area Thrash and Swedish Death Metal.

Thorsten Zahn from Metal Hammer compares the riffing with that of Heaven Shall Burn , the speed with that of Legion of the Damned and the aggression with that of Kataklysm .
