The permanent people's tribunal is an internationally active institution that is independent of state authorities and investigates issues relating to human rights violations or violations of the rights of peoples . There is no fixed location for the meetings.

history

The tribunal was founded in 1979 on the basis of the Russell Tribunals , which were named after and co-founded by Bertrand Russell and investigated human rights violations during the Vietnam War . Lelio Basso took part in these tribunals and worked towards this permanent tribunal, which he no longer lived to see.
