Perryton is the district capital and seat of the county seat of Ochiltree County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located in the far north of Texas, in the Texas Panhandle , on US Highway 83 on the Oklahoma border and has a total area of 11.5 km 2 , of which 0.1 km 2 is water.
history
The place was founded in 1919 and named after George M. Perry , an early district judge in the area.

According to the 2000 census, 7,774 people lived here in 2,785 households and 2,113 families. The population density was 677.6 people per km 2 . The racial the population was composed of 85.23% White, 0.15% African American, 0.98% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, and 11.10% other ethnic groups. About 2.12% were mixed race and 34.13% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,785 households, 42.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.6% of them were married couples living together. 8.7% were single mothers and 24.1% were non-families. 21.3% of all households were single households and 9.5% had people living in it who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.22.
31.3% of the population were under 18 years old, 8.7% 18 to 24, 28.9% 25 to 44, 19.8% 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 98.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 94.4 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 37,363 , and the median income for a family is $ 45,045. Males had a median income of $ 31,803 versus $ 19,694 for females.
