history

There were already Peter Alexander TV shows on WDR between 1963 and 1966 . The programs were in black and white and lasted for an hour. The guest star was mostly the soprano Ingeborg Hallstein and, once, Dany Saval from France .

On March 9, 1969, the ZDF first broadcast a Peter Alexander show in its program, which was a success with a viewer participation of 71%. From this point on, the station produced such a show every year in cooperation with the successful producer Wolfgang Rademann (Traumschiff, Schwarzwaldklinik), directed by Ekkehard Böhmer , Dieter Wendrich and Dieter Pröttel . The title of the show varied over the years. The first episodes were broadcast under the title Peter Alexander Presents Specialties , followed by various specials with different names, then in the 1980s Peter Alexander: We congratulate and from 1987 the Peter Alexander Show . The series came to an end in June 1996 with the special Peter Alexander “What are already 70 years” on the occasion of Alexander's 70th birthday.

The composer and bandleader Heinz Kiessling was the musical companion for over two decades . The series became a popular family show. From 1969 to 1995, Peter Alexander's shows (1969 to 1987 ZDF / ORF, 1991 to 1995 ORF) in which he offered cross-generational entertainment as a moderating host, entertainer, parodist and singer, achieved impressive ratings on television. With up to 38 million television viewers in Germany alone, ratings were achieved that were otherwise only achieved at soccer world championships. It was the same in Austria. In TELETEST , the issue of December 21, 1991 on ORF Eins has the second best reach of all broadcasts measured in Austria to date with 2.585 million.

The Peter Alexander Shows were a special form of television entertainment. Conferences with a lot of music, sketches, popular artists and scripts by Hans Hubberten led to success. His guests included long-time companions of the presenter, such as Udo Jürgens , Gunther Philipp , Maria Schell , Johannes Heesters or Paul Kuhn , as well as numerous world stars such as Montserrat Caballé , Liza Minnelli , Tom Jones , Johnny Cash and Richard Chamberlain . A particular highlight of these shows were the many parodies , including about the Musikantenstadl or the Golden Girls . In 1995 the ORF produced the last Peter Alexander Show in the Wiener Stadthalle .
