Peter Adoboh

Peter Iornzuul Adoboh (born April 14, 1958 in Tse-Kucha , Benue ; † February 14, 2020 in Abuja ) was a Nigerian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Katsina-Ala in Nigeria .

Life

Peter Adoboh entered St. Augustine's Major Seminary in Jos in 1978, where he studied philosophy and theology from 1978 to 1984. He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Makurdi on June 30, 1984 and was parish vicar of the parish of Christ the King in Vandeikya (1984–1985), deputy pastor of the parish of St. Anthonius in Zaki-Biam (1985–1986) and vice -rector at St. James Minor Seminar in Aliade (1986-1987). From 1987 to 1988 he completed a postgraduate course in spirituality at the Institute of St. Anselm in England and from 1988 to 2001 he was professor and spiritual director at the advanced seminar of St. Thomas Aquinas in Makurdi . From 1993 to 1995 a doctorate in spirituality followed at the ecumenical Toronto School of Theology (TST) in Canada. He was pastor of the parish of St. Luck in Kubwa in the Archdiocese of Abuja (2001-2004) and pastor of the parish of St. Anna in Adikpo (2004-2009). Since 2009 he has been pastor of St. Winfred's parish in Ihugh and dean of the Adikpo deanery.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on December 29, 2012 as the first bishop of the diocese of Katsina-Ala founded on the same date . The bishop of Makurdi, Athanasius Atule Usuh , donated him episcopal ordination on February 23 of the following year . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Abuja , Cardinal John Onaiyekan , and the Apostolic Nuncio in Nigeria, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja .

In an obituary, Nigerian politician and Governor of Benue State , Samuel Ioraer Ortom , recalled the critical role Bishop Adoboh played in the success of his government's amnesty program, which resulted in the laying down of thousands of arms and amnesties for hundreds of young people who joined the initiative. Adoboh also campaigned for the restoration of peace and security, particularly in the Sankera area in Ukum .
