Peter Aufgebauer

Peter Aufgebauer (born August 12, 1948 in Finsterwalde ) is a German historian .

After graduating from high school in Hagen and doing military service in Munster , he studied history , German studies and historical auxiliary sciences at the universities of Freiburg and Göttingen from 1971 to 1977 , where he passed the first state examination in 1977. His doctorate took place in 1982. From 1978 to 1985 he worked as a research assistant to Hans Patze at the Department of Medieval and Modern History at the Chair for Lower Saxony State History at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. In 1984 he was elected to the Historical Commission for Lower Saxony and Bremen . From 1985 he worked at the Institute for Historical Research at the University of Göttingen, initially as a research assistant, later as an academic councilor and senior councilor.

In 2005, Aufgebauer completed his habilitation and was granted the license to teach Middle and Modern History. Initially he was a private lecturer , in 2009 he was appointed as an adjunct professor . He retired on October 1, 2013.

Aufgebauer's areas of work are the history of the Jews in Germany as well as the local and regional history of Lower Saxony, Thuringia and Hesse. In addition, he deals with questions of medieval and modern history of science , e.g. B. with the history of astronomy and with the calendar .

Aufgebauer is the “Commissioner for the University Monuments” and has been chairman of the “History Association for Göttingen and Surroundings eV” since 2013. He is also co-editor of the specialist Internet magazine Concilium Medii Aevi .
