Peter Bannasch
Peter Bannasch (born April 14, 1934 in Biebergemünd ) is a German pathologist and oncologist .

After graduating from high school in Hanau in 1954 , Peter Bannasch studied medicine until 1960 at the universities of Frankfurt , where he became a member of the Christian student association Frankfurter Wingolf , and Freiburg im Breisgau . In Freiburg from 1957 to 1960 he was also a doctoral student and research assistant in Hermann Druckrey's research group on preventive medicine . 1960 Bannasch was in Freiburg to defend his dissertation research on cancer cell resolution fabrics in homogenates and extracts of normal rat lungs to Dr. med. PhD . He then worked as a medical assistant at various hospitals until 1962. In 1963 Peter Bannasch went to the Institute for Pathology at the University of Würzburg as a research assistant . In 1968 he completed his habilitation in Würzburg with the habilitation thesis The Cytoplasm of the Liver Cell During Carcinogenesis. Compare light and electron microscope. Investigation on d. Nitrosomorpholine-poisoned rat liver for general and special pathology. A year later Bannasch became a university professor for pathology in Würzburg and in the same year a specialist in pathology . In 1973 he went to Heidelberg , where he became professor of pathology at the university and head of the cytopathology department at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). He held the latter function until he retired in 1999.
At the DKFZ, Bannasch was chairman of the scientific council from 1981 to 1984 and from 1987 to 1988. He was managing director of the Institute for Experimental Pathology at the DKFZ from 1985 to 1988 and from 2004 to 2010 chairman of the Alumni Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum Heidelberg eV (Association for the Promotion of Research and Teaching at the German Cancer Research Center Heidelberg). He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the DKFZ from 1996 to 1999.
From 1984 to 1991 Peter Bannasch was chairman of the cancer research coordination committee of the Working Group of Large Research Institutions (AGF). He was President of the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) from 1987 to 1993. Bannasch was a member of the Executive Committee of the European Association for Cancer Research from 1982 to 1986. Chairman of the Committee for Cellular and Molecular Pathology of the EULEP ( European Late Effects Project ) from 1984 to 1996. From 1993 to 1995 he was a member of the Council of Federation of European Cancer Societies .
Two visiting professorships brought him to China . In 2000 to the Fourth Military Medical University in Xi'an and in 2005 to Wuhan to the Tongji Medical Faculty of the University of Science and Technology in Central China .
