Peter Becker (born June 8, 1962 in Ried im Innkreis ) is an Austrian historian who worked as a university professor for Austrian history in the 19th and 20th centuries at the University of Vienna , in close cooperation with the Institute for Austrian Historical Research in Vienna . He also researches and publishes on the history of criminology and criminology .

Career

After studying history, sociology and art history at the University of Graz , he received his doctorate as a historian there in 1988 . He then worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for History in Göttingen and at the German Historical Institute in Washington . He completed his habilitation at the University of Göttingen in 2000 with a thesis on the history of criminology.

From 1997 to 2005 Becker worked as professor for Central European History at the European University Institute in Florence , from 2005 to 2009 he was a substitute professor for modern history and contemporary history at the University of Linz . He then taught at the University of Vienna , which appointed him as a university professor in 2014, and since 2014 at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research.
