He served as director of the Künstlerhaus for ten years and resigned from this post at the beginning of 2013. As the artistic director of the Vienna Künstlerhaus, the focus for Bogner was on reconciling the company's tradition of designing a discursive contemporary program with the economic management of the company. This was implemented with other art institutions such as the Wien Museum , the Wiener Festwochen and the Hungarian National Gallery - most recently in 2012 on Mihály Munkácsy . As part of the overall concept, just as much attention was paid to innovation as to the history of the Künstlerhaus. For example, in 2012 Bogner curated an exhibition together with Patrick Fiska on his former member Gustav Klimt in order to examine his relationship with the Künstlerhaus from a current perspective. On the occasion of 150 years of the Künstlerhaus , the role of this institution and its functionaries under National Socialism was discussed for the first time .

Together with WINK, the economic initiative new Künstlerhaus and its president Beppo Mauhart , a plan for the gradual renovation of the Künstlerhaus was developed in 2010, as well as an expansion project designed by Jabornegg & Pálffy and Adolf Krischanitz to show the public the possibilities for the Karlsplatz location. In 2012, after long negotiations, the move of the city cinema into the Künstlerhaus Kino was completed.

As a curator, Peter Bogner accompanies numerous projects in the field of contemporary and historical art and architecture. Together with Jan Tabor , he curated mega-manifestos of presumption and an exhibition on art in architecture . He was involved in projects of the Jewish Museum on Paul Celan and Chaim Soutine and the Wien Museum on Unbuilt Vienna . Bogner designed presentations of works by Oswald Stimm , Hermann Nitsch , Josef Pillhofer and Alfred Hrdlicka . In 2013 he curated the exhibition Wagner Extase together with Paulus Manker . At the Kiesler Foundation he put together exhibitions on Bruce Nauman , Lawrence Weiner and Andrés Jaque . In 2016 he organized (together with Dieter Bogner and Gerd Zillner) the Friedrich Kiesler retrospective at the Martin Gropius Bau in Berlin.
