Peter F. Cellier (born July 12, 1928 in Hendon , Middlesex near London ) is a British actor .

life and career

Peter Cellier is the son of the actor Frank Cellier (1884-1948), who appeared in Hitchcock's The 39 Steps , among others . His half-sister Antoinette Cellier (1913–1981) was also an actress. After completing his education at the renowned Harrow School , he worked in the theater from the early 1950s and had a long career there. He played very often in Shakespearean plays and was a founding member of the Royal National Theater .

Since 1955, the actor has worked in almost 150 film and television productions, although he almost never got beyond supporting roles. Most of the time Cellier embodied in supporting roles respectful personalities such as aristocrats, lawyers, judges, officers or bishops. He starred in a total of five films that were nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture : Barry Lyndon , The Victor's Hour , Room With a View , Howards End Again, and What's Left of the Day . He took one of his few major cinema roles in 1983 in Ship of Dreams , directed by Federico Fellini . On television he has guest roles in popular series such as Doctor Who , Yes Minister , Mehr Schein als Sein and Inspector Barnaby . He most recently appeared in the television series The Crimson Petal and the White in 2011 .
