Peter Coe (born November 11, 1918 in Dubrovnik , Yugoslavia as Peter Knego , † June 9, 1993 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Coe was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in England . He made his feature film debut in 1943 with a minor supporting role in the war film Company Thunderbolt . He then acted in two universal horror films ; in Frankenstein's house he played alongside Boris Karloff , John Carradine and Lon Chaney junior , in The Mummy's Curse he played the lead role alongside Lon Chaney junior in his last appearance as mummy Kharis . After the end of the war he starred alongside John Wayne in the war film You Were Our Comrade , and in 1953 he starred alongside Charlton Heston in The Beast of the Wild . In the monumental film The Ten Commandments , he had an extra role . Overall, his film roles became smaller and rarer over the years. From the early 1950s Coe was also seen in television productions, he appeared in guest roles in various television series until the mid-1970s and worked in the western series Cheyenne , Bonanza and The People of Shiloh Ranch .

Coe was married eight times and had six children. He was a close friend of the director Ed Wood and let him live in his apartment in North Hollywood in 1978, where Wood died of a heart attack at the age of 74 .
