Peter Finxius (also: Petrus Finx ; born October 19, 1573 in Lüneburg ; † September 10, 1624 in Bückeburg ) was a German medic.

Life

Finxius came from a family that had lived in Lüneburg for a hundred years. He was the son of the citizen Johannes Finxius and Dorothea von Baventen. After attending school in Lüneburg, he moved to the University of Rostock in 1592 , where he initially completed philosophical studies. Turning to the study of medicine, he went to the University of Helmstedt on December 3, 1595 , where he received his doctorate in medicine on November 5, 1599. Then he found a job as personal physician to Count Enno III. von Friesland in Stade , moved to Lüneburg as a doctor in 1607 and then became a city physician in Braunschweig . In 1621 he became the first professor of medicine at the University of Rinteln and personal physician to Count Ernst III von Holstein-Schaumburg in Bückeburg. He was also rector of the Rinteln University. Of his writings, an eulogy for the honor and memory of Count Ernst, written in 1622, and the work De prolegomenis in universam medicinam Jordan Wedemann , written in 1622, are known . He died of a fever and was buried on September 13, 1624 in the town church in Bückeburg, where an epitaph was erected for him.

Finxius married in 1603 (1601) in Stade Lucia Rasch (* June 24, 1586 in Itzehoe; † May 6, 1625 in Bückeburg), the daughter of the princely Holstein country doctor in Dithmarschen Johannes Rasch (* around 1540; † May 5, 1621 in Heide ) and his wife Anna von Egemont (also Eggemund; * around 1542 in Westerholm; † 1593 in Heide). There were six children from the marriage, three of whom survived the mother. Johannes, David and Enno Finxius are known from the children.
