Peter Franz Biancone (born June 14, 1797 in Hamburg ; † October 18, 1874 there ) was a German merchant and shipowner .

Life

Peter Franz Biancone was the son of the merchant Franz Anton Joseph W. Biancone, who came from Italy and came to Hamburg around 1790. In December 1828 he took the Hamburg citizen oath .

Together with his cousin and later Senator GH Büsch, Biancone entered his father's commercial business as a partner on January 1, 1830, which he had been running with Siegmund Lohmann under the Biancone & Lohmann company in Hamburg since 1793. The company was renamed Biancone & Co. and from January 1836 Biancone and Büsch were the sole proprietors. Initially, the company traded in coffee and colonial goods , later the company also operated as a shipping company with six sailing ships. The Bark New York transported emigrants to New York on three trips in 1844/45 . In 1856 Rudolph Klée entered the business, which from then on traded as Biancone, Büsch & Co. and after Büsch's death in 1860 as Biancone, Klée & Co. At the beginning of the 1860s, the shipping business was given up again and the import of bulk goods was carried out. Biancone left the company on December 31, 1872.

Together with his friend Theodor Dill , Biancone was involved in the rescue of the New Stock Exchange in the Hamburg fire in 1842 .

As a committed free trader, he was a member of the board of directors of the Association for Freedom of Commerce and chaired the shipping commission formed in 1848. Together with a group of members around Adolph Godeffroy , Biancone resigned from the association in 1849 because the efforts to promote free trade did not seem sufficient to them. In 1854, however, he was back on the board of the association.
