Peter Kretschmer (food technologist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter Kretschmer (born November 12, 1938 in Kurort Oberwiesenthal ; † June 8, 2017 in Nuthetal ) was a German researcher , inventor and food technologist . His most important developments in the GDR include a. the well-known Tempo peas , Kuko rice and the Manasan baby food, later a production of kerosene from algae at the Institute for Grain Processing (IGV) in Nuthetal . Kretschmer was known as the " Daniel jet engine of the GDR food industry".

Life

Peter Kretschmer was born in 1938 in the weather station on the Fichtelberg . His father, who worked there as a meteorologist, moved with his family to Potsdam for the meteorological service in 1951 . After training from 1953 to 1958 as a food chemistry laboratory assistant and as a chemical-technical assistant , Peter Kretschmer studied chemical process engineering from 1958 to 1961 . From 1961 Kretschmer worked at the Institute for Grain Processing IGV in Bergholz-Rehbrücke (Potsdam-Mittelmark) / Institute for Nutrition, until 1970 as an employee, then until 1990 as head of the food and spices department. Kretschmer's job as a lead process engineer was to transfer products from food research to large-scale production. Since the GDR only had a small amount of currency to buy food production plants and patents in capitalist countries , the developments of the IGV made it possible to supply the population of the GDR with innovative foods. At the same time, the Tempo products save cooking time in private households and thus make considerable energy savings.

During the political change in the GDR , Kretschmer was elected managing director by the staff of the IGV, which had been converted into a GmbH, and was confirmed by the trust . In 1991, Kretschmer founded the Institute for Food and Environmental Research. In 1994, the IGV was bought from the Treuhand by MBO . In 2010, at the age of 72, Kretschmer received his doctorate from the TU Berlin . Kretschmer was managing partner of the IGV from 1990 to 2014.

Peter Kretschmer was married, had two children and lived in Wilhelmshorst .
