Peter Leipold (born November 20, 1987 in Filderstadt ) is a German conductor and composer .

Live and act

Peter Leipold grew up in Stuttgart and attended the Uhlandshöhe Waldorf School there . He started taking violin , piano and composition lessons at the age of seven , including at the Stuttgart Music School, and won prizes in competitions such as Jugend musiziert and Jugend composed .

From 2007 to 2012 he studied conducting at the Hanover University of Music with Eiji Ōue and Martin Brauß and music theory with Frank Märkel. At the same time he studied at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano with Arturo Tamayo . He completed his master's degree at the University of Music in Würzburg with Ari Rasilainen as well as master classes with Theo Brandmüller and Martin Christoph Redel . During his studies, he founded the Young Shostakovich Ensemble and conducted the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover , the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra , the German State Philharmonic Rhineland-Palatinate and the Jyväskylä Sinfonia , among others .

In the 2008/09 season Leipold was a guest répétiteur at the Hanover State Opera . In 2012 he conducted the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin with Arturo Tamayo as part of the Ultrasound Festival with works by John Cage ; the concert was broadcast on the radio ( Rbb ). From 2014 to 2018 Leipold was assistant to the conductor Joana Mallwitz at the Theater Erfurt and during this engagement also directed his own productions. He also worked as Ingo Metzmacher's assistant at La Scala in Milan and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich .

In 2014 Leipold founded the Ensemble Galina together with the pianist Patricia Hase , with which he produced a CD. Since 2019 he has been Second Kapellmeister of the Meininger Hofkapelle at the Meininger State Theater .

His composition Homage to Galina Ustvolskaya was premiered in 2004 and broadcast several times on the radio. He received a commission from the Erfurt Theater for the opera Mio, mein Mio based on Astrid Lindgren , which will be premiered in the 2020/21 season.
