Peter Maertens

Peter Maertens (born August 23, 1931 in Hamburg ; † July 11, 2020 there ) was a German actor .

Life

Peter Maertens learned the acting profession at the University of Music and Theater in his hometown Hamburg in the early 1950s . After graduating, he received his first engagement at the State Theater in Oldenburg in 1954 . After stints in Hanover and Freiburg im Breisgau , Heinz Hilpert brought him to the German Theater in Göttingen in 1957 . From 1961 to 1970 and then again from 1985 he was a member of the Hamburg Thalia Theater ensemble . Between 1970 and 1985 he worked as a freelance actor on various stages. Peter Maertens was one of the character actors who concentrate almost exclusively on their stage work and rarely make trips to film and television. Under Artistic Director Jürgen Flimm he played in productions such as Hot Money by Klaus Pohl , The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare or in Ernst Barlach's The Poor Cousin in the Thalia Theater . In 1990 and 1991 he played Death at the Berliner Jedermann Festival .

Peter Maertens was the son of the actor, director and theater manager Willy Maertens and the actress Charlotte Kramm , who, like her husband, had been part of the Thalia Theater ensemble for decades. He was the father of the actors Michael , Kai and Miriam Maertens . For his 50th stage anniversary in 2004, he was on the stage of the Thalia Theater with them.
