After the presidential elections in Iran , he also reported for the ZDF morning magazine from Tehran. When the protests against the fake re-election of the Iranian president began in mid-2009, ARD had an office in Tehran and, unlike other television companies, was able to broadcast live almost every hour. For a long time, Peter Mezger was the only western correspondent in the God state. His live appearances in Tagesschau and Tagesthemen only come about because he works with a videophone . He is not allowed to take or send pictures from the streets, otherwise he would be harassed immediately by militias and revolutionary guards.
