Peter Michel (born June 25, 1953 in Dresden ) is a German writer of spiritual and esoteric literature and founder and managing director of Aquamarin Verlag .

life and work

Michel and his family fled the GDR via Berlin to Hanover in 1956 . From 1973 to 1981 he studied philosophy , economics , German studies and religious studies at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover , at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . He received his doctorate in philosophy in 1981 in Freiburg with a treatise on the mystical sources in the work of Nelly Sachs .

Peter Michel bases his central statements on the classical authors of the Theosophical Society such as Helena Petrovna Blavatsky , Henry Steel Olcott and Charles Webster Leadbeater as well as on representatives of Indian and Tibetan teachings such as Aurobindo Ghose and Anagarika Govinda .

A central writing of Michel is the book World Religion . With reference to the biblical statement that “the spirit blows where it wills” (Jn 3: 8), Michel takes the view that a religion of the future cannot be based on dogmas or regulations or prescribe binding doctrines for its followers. Rather, the future world religion would be a "religion of the heart" in which every single person goes his own personal way to spiritual freedom. Michel works out a “loving spirituality” as important, which is based on tolerance, respect for other people and a real compassion for them.

In 1981, together with Petra Michel, he founded Aquamarin Verlag , in which, in addition to classic esoteric works on astrology , angels and death, he also publishes texts on newer Indian philosophy such as those by Jiddu Krishnamurti and Sri Aurobindo.

Peter Michel is married to the Slovak writer and TV presenter Katarina Michel . Together they published several books, including Spontaneous Healing and 12 Laws of Healing.

Reception and criticism

The Protestant theologian and esoteric specialist Jens Schnabel takes the view that Peter Michel “can be regarded as one of the most prominent representatives of contemporary theosophy.” The esoteric critics Eduard Gugenberger and Roman Schweidlenka emphasize that Michel consciously tries to find new right tendencies in esotericism to counteract this: “In his empirically-scientifically developed books about the theosophical, guruistic and 'spirit-Christian' worldview, the publisher's boss Peter Michel dealt critically with various sub-areas of the same. Auschwitz, racial prejudices and 'German demon' - genetically hard to process esoterically - are still haunted. But Michel believes that he can get over them through his work as well as through his publishing program. "The theologian Ulrich HJ Körtner criticizes Michel's interpretation of karma , which is consistent with Hindu teachings , according to which one has to" wear off one's bad karma through suffering in present life "that one worked in previous lives.

Peter Michel was friends with the physicist Hans-Peter Dürr . One of her talks on science and spirituality was held in 2012 under the title There is no matter! published as a book.
