Peter Neuner

Peter Neuner (born March 23, 1941 in Munich ) is a Catholic priest and theologian .

Life

Neuner graduated from high school in 1960 and studied philosophy and theology in Munich and Freising . In 1966 he was ordained a priest and worked as a chaplain in Traunstein until 1968 . From 1972 to 1980 he was an assistant at the Institute for Ecumenical Theology at the University of Munich. As a student of Heinrich Fries doctorate he 1976 Dr. theol , the habilitation followed in 1978. From 1980 to 1985 Peter Neuner was professor for fundamental theology in Passau . In 1985 he was offered a professorship at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, where he took the chair for dogmatics at the Catholic Theological Faculty . From the year 2000 the field of ecumenical theology was added. Until his retirement in 2006 he was also director of the Ecumenical Research Institute at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Munich.

Peter Neuner was head of the working group of dogmatists and fundamental theologians of the German-speaking area from 1998 to 2002 and chairman of the Catholic Theological Faculty Conference from 2002 to 2005. From 1999 to 2005 he was involved in a graduate college of the University of Philosophy in Munich on religious experience.

Act

Neuner's main theme is ecumenism . He has presented numerous publications on this and on the closely related ecclesiology . He is also a specialist in modernism , where he works out that theologians in the modernism controversy were wronged by representatives of the teaching profession.

He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts as well as a member of the scientific advisory board of the Catholic Academy in Bavaria, member of the German Ecumenical Study Committee and since 2000 its chairman, member of the China Center, Sankt Augustin near Bonn.
