Karl-Ernst Apfelbacher

Karl-Ernst Apfelbacher (born August 22, 1940 in Munich ; † May 15, 2015 there ) was a German theologian , Roman Catholic priest , university professor and author.

Life

Growing up in Munich, Apfelbacher studied philosophy and theology in Freiburg im Breisgau and Munich after graduating from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in 1959 . After being ordained priest in 1966 by Julius Döpfner in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, he worked in various pastoral care positions, in 1977 he received his doctorate in theology under Heinrich Fries with a thesis on the Protestant theologian Ernst Troeltsch . From 1975 he worked as prefect at the seminary in Munich and head of the preparatory college V3 (succeeding Josef Hainz ), as well as acting training director and mentor for pastoral assistants.

He worked as a research assistant at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, as a visiting professor in the context of the theological academic year in Jerusalem at the Dormition Abbey and since 1984 as a pastor in St. Ursula (Munich) , he was also the dean of the archbishopric dean of Munich -Schwabing. In 2005 he retired.

In his academic work he devoted himself particularly to topics of ecumenical theology , German mysticism , mourning and the theology of Ernst Troeltsch.
